Web Terms Glossary

Authoring Fee - Pays for design and creation of your web site.

Domain Name - Your domain name is your address on the Internet. It can be the entire name of your company, such as highcountrytreeandwreath.com, or an easy-to-remember abbreviation, such as tomstrees.com.

Hosting Fee - Pays for server space, or the computer where the site resides, which allows your site to be online.

Maintenance - Updating and improving sites that are already online.

Top-Level Domains (TLDs) - The last letters in a domain name. Typical TLDs are .com, .net, and .org. However, there are several others. Government agencies commonly use .gov and colleges regularly use .edu.

Webmail - Software which allows you to check your e-mail across the internet.

Web Page - Part of a web site, 1 screen of information on a specific topic. For example, this web page, which is dedicated to explaining web terms, is part of a web site.

Web Site - A collection of related web pages, accessed by the same domain name.
