Make a Positive Impact with Imaging Specialists.

In efforts to be an environmentally responsible organization, we’ve joined Call2Recycle, the only free rechargeable battery and cell phone collection program in North America. By conveniently recycling used rechargeable batteries and old cell phones through Call2Recycle, we’re demonstrating our commitment to the environment by adopting green business practices.

“Participating in a battery recycling program is one important way that businesses can advance their green business practices and make their organization more sustainable,” said Carl Smith, president and CEO of RBRC, which operates Call2Recycle. “Imaging Specialists is joining thousands of businesses across the country that have incorporated battery recycling into environmental initiatives and are contributing to a cleaner environment and healthier, safer communities.”

Rechargeable batteries are a long-lasting, eco-friendly power source for many electronic devices, including laptop computers, cell phones, portable scanners and printers, power tools and PDAs. We want to encourage others to recycle the rechargeable batteries used in our offices and community every day, preventing the used products from entering the solid waste stream.

Since 1996, 70 million pounds of rechargeable batteries have been collected through Call2Recycle. Various federal, state and provincial regulations govern the proper disposal of rechargeable batteries and cell phones, naming Call2Recycle in official legislation as the collection method for eco-safe rechargeable battery and cell phone reclamation and recycling. Call2Recycle is the first battery program to attain Basel Action Network (BAN) e-Steward qualification and upholds strict third-party standards for environmental safety and social responsibility.

El Torito Menus & Decals

We’ve just finished a print job for the newest restaurant in town, El Torito.

Mario Ruiz asked us to modify existing menus from other El Torito restaurants, reversing their familiar, red and black design to give Sparta its own look. We redrew the “mad bull” logo, depicted it in red and black “leather,” removed the already printed screens and added new bleed allowances to the menu images.

We also generated and installed vinyl decals at the main entrance doors.

El Torito is located at 854 South Main Street, where KFC used to be. Check ’em out! You can call in your order at 372-2880.

2012 Blue Ridge Mountain Calendar

We’ve just printed our annual Blue Ridge Mountain calendars for 2012, featuring images of our town and county, including winter scenes of Laurel Springs, spring and summer views at the New River and along the Parkway, and autumn in the Stratford Community and on Waterfall Road.

Also included is a photo from a presentation by Alleghany Community Theatre in the Alleghany County Courthouse, as well as a beaver dam on Prathers Creek, and the historic Independence, VA Courthouse.

Civil War Histories now available at Imaging Specialists

New from Star Route Books, are the histories of North Carolina’s 26th and 61st Infantry Regiments in the Civil War. Through spellbinding narratives and fascinating photography we follow the story of the 26th Regiment and Company A, The Jeff Davis Mountaineers, that consisted almost entirely of men from Ashe County and the 61st, including Company I, The Alleghany Rangers, which was made up of Alleghany County volunteers.

Originally published in 1901, these eyewitness accounts were compiled by the State of North Carolina and were part of The Histories of the Several Regiments and Battalions from North Carolina, in the Great War, 1861-65.

The 26th was noted for its participation in Pickett’s Charge at Gettysburg, there losing more men than any other regiment from either side in the entire war. They were part of the Army of Northern Virginia, fighting at Richmond, Petersburg and they were with Robert E. Lee at his eventual surrender at Appomattox.

The 61st fought, primarily, along the coast of North and South Carolina, defending Charleston Harbor, Savannah and Wilmington. They were at Morris Island and just barely missed the attack of the 54th Massachusetts Infantry, depicted in the movie Glory. They were led by General Thomas Clingman and were with General Joseph Johnston when he surrendered at Bennett Place in Durham at the war’s end.

Along with the original text, we have added company rosters, photographs, battle descriptions and period maps obtained from the National Archives, the Library of Congress, Virginia Military Institute and many other resources.

The Regimental History of the 26th North Carolina Infantry won a Willie Parker Peace History Book Award from the North Carolina Society of Historians in 2011.
